H.E. Mr. Jan Versteeg
The Ambassador of Netherlands.

Mr Versteeg was born 18 July 1964 in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Jan Versteeg was appointed Her Majesty the Queen’s Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic in summer 2012. He presented his credentials to President Papoulias on 13 September 2012 He was Deputy Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to NATO from 2009 until 2011. From 2004 to 2009 he was Diplomatic Advisor (EU affairs, International Economic issues) to Prime Minister Balkenende. From 2001 until 2004 he served as a counsellor, Head of the commercial and EU section of the Netherlands Embassy in Madrid. From 1997 until 2001 he worked in the European Integration Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs From 1993 until 1997 Mr Versteeg worked in the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to NATO and WEU as a policy officer and spokesperson. After joining the Foreign Ministry in 1991, he was a policy officer in the UN Political Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1992 until 1993, dealing with disarmament and export control issues.

In 1989 and 1990 he served as an Artillery Officer in the Royal Netherlands Army. He studied Economic Geography and Spanish at Amsterdam University from 1982 to 1988.

PERSONAL INFO: Married to Bärbel Geijsen, three children, born 1995, 1997 and 2000. He has a passion for sports (windsurfing, snowboarding, sailing, running, football) and reading (history, modern literature, arts).
