George Souravlas

George Souravlas, 50, is qualified in both Naval Architecture and Mechanical Engineering (BSc) from the University of Sunderland (UK). His academic background includes studies at the Ph D level in Mechanical Engineering (Heat Transfer) and lecturing at the University of Sunderland for 4 years, as well as various publications in the field.

Mr Souravlas, with over 20 years of experience in senior ship management, co-founded ‘’Elmira Shipping and Trading SA’’ in 1997 and has held the position of Technical Director until 2009. During his tenure at Elmira, the company has ordered and taken delivery of several new building Bulk carriers in Japan and has managed on a worldwide basis a fleet comprising of Dry bulk carriers, Reefer vessels, RO ROs, Crude Oil Chemical and Product tankers and Multi-Purpose heavy lifters. Additionally, he has been responsible for the successful execution of 4 scientific expeditions with the Indian Government to the Antarctic on a specialised ice-classed vessel. In September 2009, he founded together with Mr Calfoglou, ‘’Load Line Marine SA’’, which currently manages four modern eco friendly bulk carrier vessels.

He is a member of the Greek National Committees of the Japanese Classification Society (ClassNK) and the Korean Register and member of the Greek Technical Committees of ClassNK and the Norwegian Classification Society (Det Norske Veritas). He is also a member of the prestigious ‘’Who is Who’’ Society, in Greece and recently was also inducted to the International ‘’Who is Who’’ Society of Professionals.
