Georgios Georgoulis

Georgios Georgoulis was born in Chios in 1964. He studied in the Merchant Marine Academy of Oinousses from where he graduated in 1983. From 1983 until 1985 he served in oceangoing cargo vessels as a Cadet. In 1985 he acquired the second officer license and served as a second officer in oceangiong bulk carriers and tankers until 1987, when he served in Martial Naval as an acting Sub-lieutenant until 1989 and was released as Reserve Officer. He continued his career as a deck officer in oceangiong tankers of various capacities with speciality on Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC). After having studied in the Educational Centre of Merchant Marine officers acquired in 2000 the Captain Licence and he served as a Captain in Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) until 2003, when he was engaged by the University of the Aegean in the department of Shipping Trade and Transport as a Teaching Associate to support the Nautical studies in both under graduated and post graduated programs where he works until today. He received MSc from University of the Aegean emphasizing in new technologies for Maritime industry in 2007 and he is a Phd Candidate since 2010. From February 2011 to July 2012 he worked in the ministry of maritime affairs as an advisor to the secretary general. He is an active Captain and he is specialised in shipping operation, seafarer education issues, in the International Safety Management Code and in Maritime Risk Assessment.
